Treatment for dark circles: what is the best option for each type of dark circles?
One of the biggest aesthetic complaints is dark circles, and perhaps one of the most difficult to solve as well, because the appearance of dark circles is caused by several factors such as poor sleep, stress, systemic and genetic factors.
Dark circles are divided into 4 groups:
- Vascular dark circles: with a purplish or bluish color, this type of dark circles is caused by the dilation of the blood vessels in the region, which can be dilated for various reasons, including allergies, friction, sleep deprivation, generally people with lower phototypes are more prone to the appearance of vascular dark circles.
- Deep dark circles: some causes can lead to the appearance of deep dark circles, mostly genetic, other factors are weight loss which can lead to the appearance of dark circles due to loss of facial volume and aging for the same reason.
- Pigmented dark circles: Some factors lead to hyperpigmentation of the orbicularis oculi region, which takes on a brownish/brown appearance due to excess melanin or hemosiderin, including friction in the region which, over time, damaging (rubbing) will result in a stain, stress, insomnia, genetics are also factors predisposing to its appearance. People with higher phototypes are more prone to the appearance of pigmented dark circles.
- Mixed dark circles: This happens when there is a combination of more than one type, very common, for example, pigmented and deep, requiring two types of treatments.
What is the best treatment for each case?
There are some treatments that help to alleviate and even eliminate dark circles. In the case of deep dark circles, filling with hyaluronic acid is the best option because this way we will restore volume to the area, making the appearance of tiredness disappear completely. When we talk about pigmented dark circles we need to treat with procedures that break down that accumulated melanin and as the formation of melanin is constant and depending on habits it can speed up the process, we can alleviate it, but often not remove it completely, some of the treatments are lasers, acids, carboxytherapy, and plenty of home care and sun protection. Vascular as well as pigmentary diseases are difficult to treat because they are mostly of genetic origin, but carboxytherapy is a good option to help oxygenate the tissue.
